Belfast Music Venues

Belfast Music Venues

Here at Guitar Lessons Belfast there is nothing we love more than checking out a great band in a great local venue! So we have compiled a brief list of a few of the most significant music venues, big and small, in and around Belfast! Enjoy, in no order...

Limelight Belfast

Limelight Belfast perhaps the best and most famous underground music club in Belfast, play host to gigs from the likes of Blur, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Libertines and Fall Out Boy - as well as many more - has international recognition having some of the best indie and rock nights out in Belfast. Established in 1984 Limelight is perhaps most famous for Oasis's gig in the venue on September 4, 1994 when the band recieved the news that their debue album Definitely Maybe had reached number one in the UK album charts. Noel Gallagher recalls that “We were playing in a bar in Belfast, I think it was called the Limelight. I was in the dressing room afterwards when someone came up and told us the album was going to be number one!" A great music venue in Belfast - a place to go and watch both up and coming bands and the worlds best.

Queen's Students' Union, Mandela Hall

Queen's Students' Union, Mandela Hall hold some of Belfast's most epic gigs by international bands. The 900-strong capacity, normally packed full of university students have seen the likes of Ed Sheeran, Chase & Status, Bombay Bicycle Club, Munford & Sons and Slash rock crowds. With great rock bands at seriously resonable prices the SU's Mandela Hall is one of the best places to experience live music in Belfast! Check it out!

The Odyssey Arena plays host to some of the biggest artists that visit Northern Ireland, 2012 will see the likes of Cheryl Cole, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and One Direction entertain audiences. It even saw Belfast host the MTV European Music Awards on 6 November 2011. It is certainly more of the international/national tour venue for large pop and rock artists rather than underground bands but  worth looking out for nonetheless! If all else fails you can always go and see Michael McIntyre!

Ulster Hall

Ulster Hall one of Belfast most iconic buildings, has infrequent visits from international artists that are well worth seeing. A mixture of arts, workshops and music the venue is not the first place I would look to to see a band in Belfast but occasional it does pull something out the hat that is well worth seeing! Belfast bands like Stiff Little Fingers play the Ulster Hall reguarally so it is worth keeping a eye on what is on here!
